Why Arctic Cliffhangers?
About 6 months ago, the Alaska Sisters in Crime board met on many topics, including our name. We determined we should have "a new name, a new image." We felt that if we were to take “Alaska” out of our name then perhaps our member in Whitehorse, Canada would feel more comfortable with being a member (and others would join her) and if we took “Sisters” out of our name, then perhaps we could acquire some "brothers" as members. Of course having “Crime” in our name has created issues and discussions of its own so that was considered. We spent several months selecting and reviewing possible new names, and the board had the difficult task of narrowing the ideas down to one. We are still an affiliate of the Sisters in Crime organization, we still have the same mission statement as we did as Alaska Sisters in Crime, but now our name will be Arctic Cliffhangers. We liked the inclusionary nature of the word “Arctic”, and “Cliffhangers” has several meanings, including our favorite, a GREAT mystery! We hope you enjoy the new name as much as we do, and will continue to support our and Sisters in Crime’s missions.

At the Alaska Library Association's 50th Annual Convention, held on March 5 & 6th 2010 at the Hotel Captain Cook, Alaska Sisters in Crime Panel Members agreed to put up a list of Recommended Reads on our website and Social Networking site (see link at right). Below are the recommended reads from Dana Stabenow and I will continue to update as the lists become available. If you have a list you'd like to share, please email us: info@aksinc.org.

While Dana Stabenow, Kimberley Gray & Karen Laubenstein (all present or past Presidents) spoke on a panel about how the Libraries and Alaska Sisters in Crime can work together.
